The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) has historically sought healing both individually, as well as in community.
As Quakers, we acknowledge the presence of the “Light Within”, or God in every person, and look to a divine, restorative Spirit to heal the wounds of division in our individual lives, families and neighborhoods.
We recognize the suffering our immigrant neighbors experience when subjected to illegal and sometimes violent treatment at the hands of those enforcing immigration policy; this violates our testimonies of peace, integrity, community and equality.
We affirm our commitment to live in accordance with the Truth, and support one another in loving community by rejecting any and all discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, class, immigration status, age, ability, sexual orientation, or other differences.
We further uphold the right of all individuals to seek healing and direct relationship with God in “gathered community” where loving acceptance and support may lessen the burden of separation and fear.
Accordingly, Iowa Yearly Meeting (Conservative), stands with Quakers and other faith communities in supporting the integrity of places of worship and prayer as sacred and welcoming to all who seek wholeness and healing in a broken world.
